CVN Kalari- Kalarippayatu CVN Kalari at East fort, Trivandrum was established by Sri C. V. Govindan Kutty Nair Gurukkal following the lineage of Sri C.V.

Narayanan Nair Gurukkal in the year 1956 coinciding with the formation of the state of Kerala. The name kalarippayat is derived from the two words Kalari meaning the training space and payat meaning the process of repetitive training. Kalaries are traditional training spaces where the art of kalarippayat is practiced. Kalaries has been interwoven with the social and cultural life of Kerala from ti

me immemorial. During the medieval period, every village in northern kerala known as the Malabar region used to have at least one Kalari where young boys and girls from the age of 9 years are introduced to physical culture and self-disciplining of Kalarippayat. The ritualistic and spiritual atmosphere of training formed part of a daily routine of education of the young and the proficient ones from among the students eventually chose to become warriors.
