“Peace Notes: A Concert, a Project and a Journey of Peace”.

The South Asian Symphony Foundation presented The South Asian Symphony Orchestra’s signature concert at Bangalore on October the 4th and 5th, 2019. “From Gandhi to Beethoven. The Call to Freedom” was a musical tribute to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's 150th year anniversary. The concept of having over fifty musicians from South Asia, South East Asia, Central Asia as well as from the Indian diaspora in United States and Europe, paying tribute to India's Father of the nation, known for his love of diverse music as well as his vision of a world at peace was very well projected by the program.

We at Trivandrum Academy (TAWM) would like to express our deep gratitude to Mrs Nirupama Rao and Mr Sudhakar Rao, the Founder-Trustees of the South Asian Symphony Foundation, for the opportunity given to one of our musicians, Kenzhegul Akshekina, to perform as part of South Asian Symphony Orchestra. Mrs Nirupama Rao needs no introduction in India. A respected career diplomat with wide-ranging global experience, she became the Foreign Secratary of India during the period of 2009-2011. An accomplished singer and published poet, her love for music is known to all. Her husband, Mr Sudhakar Rao was the Chief Secretary for the state of Karnataka

Our cellist Kenzhegul Akshekina from the Central Asian country of Kazakhstan, has expanded the list of countries participating in this project along with a few other musicians from Kazakhstan. The intense and week-long rehearsals of the large scale program was organized with ease by the SASF officials, where camaraderie of musicians across countries reigned and they spoke the international language of music.

Kenzhegul says: “I grew up in a family of teachers. My grandfather is a historian who revealed to me world history. Since childhood, I heard about the role and contribution, about the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi in the heritage of India. I could never imagine that I would play a concert dedicated to the memory and 150th anniversary of the birth of the great Mahatma Gandhi. This is a great honor for me!"

Trivandrum, with its rich tradition as a center of music over the centuries, was well represented at the concert, with Kenzhegul as well as by the most famous pianist out of Trivandrum yet, Julian Clef. Julian's beautiful rendition Piano Concerto No.4 in G Major, Op 58 composed by Beethoven was ably supported by the rest of the orchestra. Julian has flown in from London, where he is based now.

Cello musician of Trivandrum Academy of Western music and a concert performer - Kenzhegul Akshekina (a graduate of Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I.Tchaikovsky) was honored to perform as part of the Symphony Orchestra of India in Mumbai on the stage of the NCPA Jamshed Bhabha Theater.
NCPA Mumbai Symphony Orchestra of India

The Symphony Orchestra of India was founded in 2006 by National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) by Chairman Khushroo Suntook and internationally-renowned violin virtuoso Marat Bisengaliev, who serves as the Orchestra’s Music Director. Zane Dalal was appointed as the Associate Music Director of the SOI in September 2014, following serving seven years as the Resident Conductor.

The NCPA will successfully complete 50 years of its creation this year!

Some of the best musicians of the world and wonderful conductors, a creative and friendly atmosphere inspired our Kenzhegul, especially our Academy, to organize new concerts in Trivandrum and in the future beyond!

3 concerts in Autumn 2019 Season (17th, 22nd, 27th of September) were held in NCPA with stunning success with the best works of classical music: Haydn, Wagner, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky Khachaturian.

From ncpamumbai.com:
“On September 17, Simon O’Neill, hailed as "THE Wagnerian tenor of his generation" returns to the SOI for the third time, accompanied by fellow New Zealander, soprano Amanda Atlas, in an all-Wagner gala, featuring music from Parsifal, Lohengrin, and Die Walküre. Associate Music Director Zane Dalal will conduct this special programme.
After his extremely successful concerts with the SOI last year, Russian conductor Alexander Lazarev returns to conduct two concerts this season. On September 22, Irish pianist Barry Douglas, a favourite of Mumbai audiences, will perform Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2. The programme also features Stravinsky’s brash, bold, and exciting suite from the ballet Petrushka.
The Season concludes with the SOI welcoming to the stage the young Indian pianist Lydian Nadhaswaram from Chennai, who went viral this year as the winner of the television competition The World’s Best on CBS. He will perform Haydn’s Piano concerto No. 11. The concert, led by Lazarev will open with excerpts from the Khachaturian’s ballet Spartacus and feature Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, one of the Russian composer’s most popular works.”

Many thanks to our dear Marat Bisengaliev, the world renowned violin maestro, for the invitation and to be chosen among the best musicians, for attracting musicians who contributed to the further training of our artist Kenzhegul. We salute your help in discovering precious musicians, supporting young talents and for creative tips.

Special thanks to the whole organization and administration for the brilliant work done, especially to manager of SOI Mrs. Onay Onay Zhumabayeva for the opportunity and invitation, for opening to Kenzhegul the India and to start her cello sessions with Trivandrum Academy of the Western Music, where Kenzhegul already has 10 cello trainee musicians!

We look forward to further creative cooperation!
