NCPA Mumbai Symphony Orchestra of India
The Symphony Orchestra of India was founded in 2006 by National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) by Chairman Khushroo Suntook and internationally-renowned violin virtuoso Marat Bisengaliev, who serves as the Orchestra’s Music Director. Zane Dalal was appointed as the Associate Music Director of the SOI in September 2014, following serving seven years as the Resident Conductor.
The NCPA will successfully complete 50 years of its creation this year!
Some of the best musicians of the world and wonderful conductors, a creative and friendly atmosphere inspired our Kenzhegul, especially our Academy, to organize new concerts in Trivandrum and in the future beyond!
3 concerts in Autumn 2019 Season (17th, 22nd, 27th of September) were held in NCPA with stunning success with the best works of classical music: Haydn, Wagner, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky Khachaturian.
From ncpamumbai.com:
“On September 17, Simon O’Neill, hailed as "THE Wagnerian tenor of his generation" returns to the SOI for the third time, accompanied by fellow New Zealander, soprano Amanda Atlas, in an all-Wagner gala, featuring music from Parsifal, Lohengrin, and Die Walküre. Associate Music Director Zane Dalal will conduct this special programme.
After his extremely successful concerts with the SOI last year, Russian conductor Alexander Lazarev returns to conduct two concerts this season. On September 22, Irish pianist Barry Douglas, a favourite of Mumbai audiences, will perform Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2. The programme also features Stravinsky’s brash, bold, and exciting suite from the ballet Petrushka.
The Season concludes with the SOI welcoming to the stage the young Indian pianist Lydian Nadhaswaram from Chennai, who went viral this year as the winner of the television competition The World’s Best on CBS. He will perform Haydn’s Piano concerto No. 11. The concert, led by Lazarev will open with excerpts from the Khachaturian’s ballet Spartacus and feature Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, one of the Russian composer’s most popular works.”
