Lord Brahma felt that He was more prevailing than Lord Shiva – since He had the supremacy of creation. This sense of pride provoked Lord Shiva, who destroyed Lord Brahma’s Fifth Head, and also cursed Him that He would lose His power of creation.bramma temple thiruppatur brahma temple tiruppatur
After loosing his fifth head and all his powers, Lord Brahma realized his mistake since his privileged duty of creation was affected and so worshipped Lord Shiva at various places. During the course of His pilgrimage, Lord Brahma visited Thirupattur and worshipped Lord Shiva with a Shiva Lingam under a Magizha tree with water from the nearby tank, now called Brahma Theertham.tirupattur bramma temple brahma temple in tamilnadu
Brahmma got the creation rights from Lord Shiva. With a view to give Brahmma equal status, Lord Shiva gave him five heads as He had. Brahmma became proud of this position. Shiva took off one head. Brahmma also lost his creation job. Brhamma sought relief and apologized for his folly. Lord Shiva advised Brahmma to go to Tirupattur on Earth and worship Him with 12 Lingas (Dwadasalingas) and offered relief. As Lord Shiva changed Brahmma’s own bad destiny, he was advised to so in the case of devotees. As Brahmma worshipped Shiva here, the Lord is named Brahmapureeswarar. Mother Goddess is named Brahmmanayaki or Brahmma Sampath Gouri.

As a Chola king was going around the city on an elephant. The elephant went uncontrollable all of a sudden. The mahout was in a shock. Just then a c**k squeaked and flew over to the head of the elephant and jabbed with its beak. The elephant was restored to order. The c**k burrowed with its claws of a leg at a place and a Shivalinga was found there. The Chola king built a temple for the Linga. The temple came to be known as Woraiyur Panchavarneswarar Koil.

At a distance of 2 km from Thiruverumbur Railway Station and 13 km from Trichy, Sri Erumbeeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

This temple is one of the group of shrines built by Aditya Chola along the banks of River Cauvery, to commemorate his victory over Pandyas during Tirupurambiyam Battle in 885 CE. The temple has several inscriptions from the Chola period dating back to the 10th century. The temple has been declared à protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India.

The temple enshrines Erumbeeswarar, another form of Lord Shiva as the presiding deity along with his consort Saurabhya Kudalaambal. This temple is built on a 60 ft high hill called as Malai Kovil and can be accessed by a plight of steps. Lord Shiva in this temple is believed to be self manifested. As it is a sand Lingam, no abhishekas are performed here.

According to the legend, there lived a demon Tharukasura, who was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, but was against other gods. So he never allowed any one to enter in this temple. Brahma, Indra and all other gods took the form of ants (Erumbu in Tamil) to hide from the demon and worshiped lord at this place. Here we can see that Shiva lingam is slanting to one. We can see the marks of ants creeping on the lingam.
