In August 2020, a heartbreaking mistake changed one family’s life forever. A 20-year-old woman from Michigan, who was living with cerebral palsy, was struggling to breathe when emergency responders arrived at her home. After checking her, she was mistakenly declared deceased and transported to a funeral home.
Hours later, staff at the funeral home made a shocking discovery — she was still alive and breathing. She was rushed to the hospital immediately. Sadly, doctors later confirmed she had suffered severe brain damage due to lack of oxygen.
She never fully recovered and passed away about two months later. Her family took legal action, saying the error worsened her condition. Years later, the city reached a multi-million dollar settlement with them.
This tragic case sparked nationwide conversations about emergency response procedures and accountability.
No family should ever have to experience something like this. 💔
