After Two Years, Search Ends in Triumph as Body of Gandbal Boat Tragedy Victim Recovered, Bringing Closure to Grieving Families Srinagar, Jan 19 (KVN): Following an unwavering and unrelenting wait of over two years, the body of Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, one of the victims of the Gandbal boat tragedy, was recovered from the Jhelum river on Monday, symbolizing the power of perseverance and hope. Local residents informed that the body of the missing victim, which had remained untraced since the tragic incident, was spotted and retrieved from the river stretch near the accident site earlier today, marking a major breakthrough in the search operation. In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, elite divers from the MARCOS, in conjunction with the SDRF's Quick Response Team (QRT), conducted extensive underwater search operations at multiple locations in the Jhelum, demonstrating their unyielding commitment to the cause. However, despite sustained efforts, the body could not be located at that time. On Monday, locals noticed the body in the river and informed authorities, following which it was retrieved, bringing a sense of relief and closure to the families of the victims. The Gandbal boat tragedy resulted in the loss of eight lives, including children, and remains one of the most heartbreaking and deadliest incidents in Srinagar's recent history.
