The State of West Bengal with a variety of forest types is very rich in terms of Wildlife. North Bengal flood plains harbor wild animals like Tiger , Common Leopard , Clouded Leopard , Elephant , Rhino , Himalayan Black Bear , Sloth Bear , Gaur , Sambar , Barking Deer , Spotted Deer , Hog Deer , Wild Boar , Rhesus Monkey , Common Languor ,

different types of small Cats and Civets ,Crocodile , Gharail , Jungle Fowls and a large number of terrestrial and water Birds. Siliguri is second most populous city after Kolkata in West Bengal and is situated at the entrance of North Bengal. People travelling to Darjeeling hills, Sikkim, North East India, Bhutan and Eastern Nepal have to touch through Siliguri. It is well connected with all these along with Kolkata and New Delhi by Rail, Road and Air. North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri has established to showcase the faunal diversity of the North Bengal flood plains to the local people and visitors to the region. The Safari Park has been planned keeping in view the standard and norms formulated by the Central Zoo Authority for its development and maintenance. North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri is spread in an area of 297 hectares. The Park is developed in its natural habitat of Sal & its associated species .The Park shall be having 4 nos. Mixed Herbivore Safari (91 ha), Tiger Safari (20 ha). The visitors shall be taken to these safaris in specially designed vehicles. The lesser cats, fresh water crocodile, gharial and representatives birds of North Bengal shall be displayed in appropriately designed large enclosures. Hon’ble Chief Minister, West Bengal laid the foundation stone of the North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri on 17th July, 2014. Section of the Park with Mixed Herbivore Safari, Red Jungle Fowl enclosure and jungle Cat enclosure is ready for opening to the public. Hon’ble Chief Minister, West Bengal dedicated the North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri to the nation in January 2016. Total Area – 297 ha

World Lion Day 2026 at North Bengal Wild Animals Park (Bengal Safari), Siliguri 🌿

Under the guidance of the Director of the Park, North Bengal Wild Animals Park celebrated World Lion Day 2026 with great enthusiasm, focusing on Asiatic Lion conservation, wildlife awareness, and the importance of protecting biodiversity.
The celebration featured an engaging lion presentation and interactive session for pre-school students, and an exciting Lion Safari. A special technical session for college students focused on Asiatic Lion conservation and behavioural studies, connecting scientific knowledge with field-based wildlife observation.

🌿🐅 Global Tiger Day 2026 Celebration 🐅🌿

Today, we successfully celebrated Global Tiger Day 2026 with enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and guests. 4 schools from Siliguri with a total of 120 students participated in todays event. The event featured various competitions, including Clay Model Making, Face Painting, Drawing & Colouring, Poster & Model Display, and Photography, including a visit to the tiger safari all aimed at spreading awareness about tiger conservation and the importance of protecting our rich wildlife heritage. The winners and the participants were awarded with medals and certificates with a plant distribution for all the participants.
The programme was conducted under the able guidance of the Director of the Park, whose leadership and encouragement made the event a grand success.
Heartfelt thanks to all the participating schools, students, teachers, Zoo staff and every individual who contributed to making this celebration meaningful and memorable.

🌿 Aranya Saptaha 2026 | “একটি গাছ মায়ের নামে” 🌿
Aranya Saptaha 2026 was celebrated on 15 July 2026 at the North Bengal Wild Animals Park (Bengal Safari), Siliguri, under the inspiring theme “একটি গাছ মায়ের নামে” (Ek Ti Gaach Mayer Name).
The theme seeks to inspire people to plant and nurture trees as a tribute to their mothers, while fostering a deeper emotional bond between people and nature and reaffirming our collective responsibility towards environmental conservation.
The programme was graced by the presence of Shri Manoj Kumar Oraon, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Forest & Environment, Government of West Bengal; Shri Anandamoy Barman, Hon’ble Minister of State, Department of Finance & Transport, Government of West Bengal; Smt. Sikha Chatterjee, Hon’ble Member of the Legislative Assembly, Dabgram-Fulbari Assembly Constituency; Shri Manish Jain, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal; Shri Sandeep Sundriyal, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force; Shri Rajesh Kumar, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden; Smt. Anupama, IFS, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (North); Shri J. V. Bhaskar, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), North; Shri Samir Gazmer, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests (Hill Circle); and other invited dignitaries. The Director of the Park, Shri E.Vijayakumar, IFS welcomed all the dignitaries and officials.
As part of the celebration, the Aranya Rath, a specially designed awareness vehicle, was ceremonially flagged off to carry the message of forest conservation, environmental protection and the importance of tree plantation to the wider community.
A ceremonial plantation programme was also organised, during which the Hon’ble dignitaries planted saplings under the campaign “একটি গাছ মায়ের নামে”.
The celebration aimed to inspire greater public participation in environmental conservation and to encourage individuals to plant and nurture trees in the name of their mothers. Through this meaningful campaign, the message of a greener, healthier and more sustainable future was shared with the community. 🌱🌳

At Bengal Safari, the serene safari habitat comes alive as graceful Spotted Deer and Sambar Deer graze peacefully, Wild Boars forage through the earth, while Peafowls, Jungle Fowls, and playful Monkeys carry on the rhythm of the wild. 🦌🦚🐒

A beautiful reminder that every species plays a vital role in nature’s harmony.
