With the aim of promoting the rich tradition of Indian Classical Music, the organization “Sur Nishad” organised a small session of Classical Music on 12 April 2026 (Sunday) at Jawaharlal Nehru Kala Kendra, MECON Colony, Ranchi, in the revered memory of the eminent sitarist and music guru, Late Shri Prashant Thakur.
The program commenced with a Tabla solo recital by Ranchi’s emerging and talented artist, Shri Arpan Mukherjee. He presented various aspects of Tabla playing based on Teentaal, including Uthaan, Peshkar, Kaayda, Tukra, and Chakradhar. His excellent sense of rhythm and powerful presentation captivated the audience and showcased his remarkable talent. He was being aptly supported by Dr. Manish Kumar on Harmonium.
This was followed by a mesmerizing performance by young flute artist Master Hrishav Thakur. He was accompanied by young tabla artist Shri Kartikeya Kumar Mishra from Jamshedpur, who provided a graceful accompaniment. Master Hrishav Thakur won the hearts of the audience with his soulful renditions of Raag Bhoopali and Raag Desh. The performance of both young artists reflected maturity and immense potential.
The next presentation featured classical vocal music by the talented young singer Shri Shaurya Roy from Jamshedpur. He rendered Raag Puriya Dhanashree with great sweetness, depth, and an evocative evening mood. The well-coordinated accompaniment by Shri Amitabh Sen on Tabla and Dr. Manish Kumar on harmonium elevated the performance, creating a deeply musical and spiritual atmosphere.
Thereafter, Ranchi’s renowned vocalist Smt. Deepti Kumari delivered a highly emotive presentation of semi-classical music. Her performance deeply moved the audience. She began with a Chaita, beautifully depicting the essence of the season. This was followed by a Sufi composition and a bhajan, making the presentation even more expressive and melodious. She presented the song “Abhi na jaao Chhod ke” as a mark of respected to the immortal soul, Asha Bhosle ji; and paid tribute to the legend. The refined accompaniment by Shri Amitabh Sen on tabla and Dr. Manish Kumar on harmonium added special charm to her performance.
