I saw them on the shores of Dhanushkodi.
Sitting on quiet stones, saying nothing, doing nothing, yet it felt like everything.

Just being.

Maybe this is what leisure looks like.

At Agni Teertham, the sea holds an ancient story.

It is believed that after the war with Rāvaṇa, Rāma wished to worship Śiva.

With no linga to offer, Sītā is said to have shaped one from the sand, and Rama prayed.

Even today, that moment lives on,
in the hands that gather sand,
and in the Śivaliṅgas shaped by the shore.

Learning Bukhara miniature painting has been a dream of mine for years.

So when I finally traveled to Uzbekistan, I had one goal: to fully immerse myself in this delicate art form.

At first, I didn’t know what to paint—until my friend inspired me:

A woman at leisure. Unbothered. Admiring a flower… with a little parrot quietly watching her.

This became my very first miniature—blending traditional techniques with our ongoing ‘Women at Leisure’ series.

Patriarchy wants women useful, available, modest, tired, and occupied.

Feminism imagines her at leisure- playful, public, unserious, wind in the hair, unbothered and taking the ride anyway.

The history of liberation began with the first dare, then balance, then movement and then joy.

A woman at ease is a study of freedom and equality.

Women have always stood in the kitchen with their backs to the world, hands at work, mind full of what the family needs- some like it hot, some warm, some want it strong, some without. Some need it frothed and some just stirred.

And then there is her- at her leisure- with a cup of tea that is not for anyone- but herself. The way she likes it, with as much sugar and milk, as hot as she wants. Ears shut, back still to the world, hands slower and purposeful.
