Who doesn't know the man with the spindle?
The man who fought a silent war, the man who brought us freedom as we know it. But was that all he did?
☀️
Somewhere on the line he sparked an idea, contagious, viral and everlasting. One that somehow has found it's way out even today. In 1903, word was around a new movement had caught pace, the Swadeshi movement, a movement that begun entirely to boycott the goods brought by the British to our country, but it evolved into something much greater. To avoid the partition of Bengal, this movement began, building form and purpose, and brought British economics on it's knees.
☀️
Gandhiji imbibed a sense of belongingness in people. People made their own goods, sold their own goods and were independent of any external forces. This was the power of Swadeshi, this was 'Make in India' in the making. This was the idea, this was the Swadeshi spirit that somewhere led to establishment of Tata Iron and Steel industry in Jharkhand. And this was the idea that boosted cotton textiles and chemical swadeshi stores like never before.
☀️
Make in India, an initiative by the Indian government can be named an amped up version of the Swadeshi movement. It is a push-start for small business who don't have the capital, a leap for startups that want to make it to the big leagues. This is the new Swadeshi movement. And believe us, this is just the beginning!
☀️
On his birth anniversary, we remember him for his invaluable contribution to the nation and express our heartfelt gratitude.
