🎨 History was made in the Indian art world.

In March 2025, philanthropist and collector Kiran Nadar acquired M.F. Husain's 1954 masterpiece Untitled (Gram Yatra) for $13.75 million at Christie's New York - a sale that climbed to roughly $13.8 million with fees, setting a new world record for modern Indian art.

The price nearly doubled the previous high (Amrita Sher-Gil's The Storyteller, $7.4M in 2023). 🖌️

Often called the "Picasso of India," M.F. Husain (1915–2011) co-founded the Bombay Progressive Artists' Group and created an estimated 40,000 works over seven decades. This nearly 14-foot painting weaves 13 vignettes of rural Indian life farmers, cattle, and an ox-drawn cart into one canvas, symbolizing a post-independence vision of India.

Rediscovered after 70+ years in Oslo, the work now returns home under the stewardship of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA), with proceeds supporting medical training at Oslo University Hospital. 🇮🇳
