Pune The cost of construction of the Chapekar flyover in Chinchwad has increased by a whopping Rs 8 crore. While the earlier cost was Rs 15.89 crore, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation would now spend Rs 23.5 crore for the flyover. Join us on Twitter | Join us on LinkedIn | Join us on Facebook The resolution to approve the revised expenditure for the work was approved as a short notice proposal during the standing committee meeting held on February 28, which was the last meeting presided over by former chairman Prashant Sh*tole. Speaking to TOI, Dilip Kudale, coordinator, engineering department, PCMC, said, “The work of constructing the flyover is expected to be completed by June-end. The work of laying the slab on the pillars of the flyover has started.” The corporation had first proposed to construct the flyover in 2004-05. However, the design could not be finalised immediately. Later, the work got delayed due to the delay in acquisition of land. Chapekar chowk, located at Chinchwadgaon, is one of the busiest chowks in Pimpri-Chinchwad township. Seven roads meet at the chowk. Roads from Pimpri-Chinchwad link road, Chinchwad station, SKF company, Thergaon, Bijlinagar and two roads coming from Chinchwadgaon. There are vegetable market, municipal school, PCMC Zone B office, post office, commercial offices and residential buildings located around the chowk. As a result, there is heavy movement of vehicles and people on this road throughout the day.
