She didn't wait for permission. She just painted.

Amrita Sher-Gil was 28 when she died. In those 28 years, she created over 145 paintings that changed the course of Indian art forever.

Half Indian, half Hungarian. Trained in Paris. Exhibited at the Grand Salon as a teenager. And then — she left it all behind to return to India.

Why? Because she saw something in India that the Western art world couldn't see. The quiet strength in a village woman's eyes. The beauty in ordinary moments. The stories no one was painting.

At a time when the art world didn't take women seriously, she didn't ask to be let in. She made them impossible to ignore.

Today, her works are National Art Treasures of India.
