World mental health day 2020 was around the corner, we at BYQA.INK acknowledge and attempt to be part of the much-needed conversation around the subject through our creative expression.

'Speak', an anthology of poems is one such attempt that intends to make the society we live in, know that talking about mental health problems is okay. The book is compiled by Safeer Bhola with the poems penned by 22 poets, written as part of an initiative by Bullock Cart Poetry and published by Notion Press Publishing.

We are proud to share about our co-founder and team member Vaidehi Sancheti's contribution to this book with her poem.

On the occasion of UNICEF World Day of the GIRL


हॉकी खेलती लड़कियाँ

आज शुक्रवार का दिन है
और इस छोटे से शहर की ये लड़कियाँ
खेल रही हैं हॉकी।
खुश हैं लड़कियाँ
फिलहाल
खेल रही हैं हॉकी
कोई डर नहीं।

बॉल के साथ दौड़ती हुई
हाथों में साधे स्टिक
वे हरी घास पर तैरती हैं
चूल्हे की आँच से
मूसल की धमक से
दौड़ती हुई
बहुत दूर आ जाती हैं।

वहाँ इंतज़ार कर रहे हैं
उन्हें देखने आए हुए वर पक्ष के लोग
वहाँ अम्मा बैठी राह तकती है
कि बेटियाँ आएं तो
संतोषी माता की कथा सुनाएं
और
वे अपना व्रत तोड़ें।

वहाँ बाबूजी प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं
दफ्तर से लौटकर
पकौड़ी और चाय की
वहाँ भाई घूम-घूम कर लौट आ रहा है
चौराहे से
जहाँ खड़े हैं मुहल्ले के शोहदे
रोज़ की तरह
लड़कियाँ हैं कि हॉकी खेल रही हैं।

लड़कियाँ
पेनाल्टी कार्नर मार रही हैं
लड़कियाँ
पास दे रही हैं
लड़कियाँ
'गो...ल- गो...ल' चिल्लाती हुई
बीच मैदान की ओर भाग रही हैं।
लड़कियाँ
एक-दूसरे पर ढह रही हैं
एक-दूसरे को चूम रही हैं
और हँस रही हैं।

लड़कियाँ फाउल खेल रही हैं
लड़कियों को चेतावनी दी जा रही है
और वे हँस रही हैं
कि यह ज़िन्दगी नहीं है
-इस बात से निश्चिंत हैं लड़कियाँ
हँस रही हैं
रेफ़री की चेतावनी पर।

लड़कियाँ
बारिश के बाद की
नम घास पर फिसल रही हैं
और गिर रही हैं
और उठ रही हैं

वे लहरा रही हैं
चमक रही हैं
और मैदान के अलग-अलग मोर्चों में
रह-रहकर उमड़-घुमड़ रही हैं।

वे चीख़ रही हैं
सीटी मार रही हैं
और बिना रुके भाग रही हैं
एक छोर से दूसरे छोर तक।

उनकी पुष्ट टांगें चमक रही हैं
नृत्य की लयबद्ध गति के साथ
और लड़कियाँ हैं कि निर्द्वन्द्व निश्चिन्त हैं
बिना यह सोचे कि
मुँह दिखाई की रस्म करते समय
सास क्या सोचेगी।

इसी तरह खेलती रहती लड़कियाँ
निस्संकोच-निर्भीक
दौड़ती-भागती और हँसती रहतीं
इसी तरह
और हम देखते रहते उन्हें।

पर शाम है कि होगी ही
रेफ़री है कि बाज नहीं आएगा
सीटी बजाने से
और स्टिक लटकाये हाथों में
एक भीषण जंग से निपटने की
तैयारी करती लड़कियाँ लौटेंगी घर।

अगर ऐसा न हो तो
समय रुक जाएगा
इन्द्र-मरुत-वरुण सब कुपित हो जाएंगे
वज्रपात हो जाएगा, चक्रवात आ जाएगा
घर पर बैठे
देखने आए वर पक्ष के लोग
पैर पटकते चले जाएंगे
बाबूजी घुस आएंगे गरजते हुए मैदान में
भाई दौड़ता हुआ आएगा
और झोंट पकड़कर घसीट ले जाएगा
अम्मा कोसेगी-
'किस घड़ी में पैदा किया था
ऐसी कुलच्छनी बेटी को!'
बाबूजी चीखेंगे-
'सब तुम्हारा बिगाड़ा हुआ है !'
घर फिर एक अँधेरे में डूब जाएगा
सब सो जाएंगे
लड़कियाँ घूरेंगी अँधेरे में
खटिया पर चित्त लेटी हुईं
अम्मा की लम्बी साँसें सुनतीं
इंतज़ार करती हुईं
कि अभी वे आकर उनका सिर सहलाएंगी
सो जाएंगी लड़कियाँ
सपने में दौड़ती हुई बॉल के पीछे
स्टिक को साधे हुए हाथों में
पृथ्वी के छोर पर पहुँच जाएंगी
और 'गोल-गोल' चिल्लाती हुईं
एक दूसरे को चूमती हुईं
लिपटकर धरती पर गिर जाएंगी

We often forget the women who held fort, in the shadows of legendary men like Gandhiji and Shastriji.
This 2nd October we at BYQA want to thank the women behind these great men. It must have been quite a journey to accept these remarkable husbands and calmly execute what was desired of them. Immense Gratitude Ladies!!

Yes! It's the first-ever SWA Awards 2020 by Screenwriters Association India, a celebration for writers, by writers to be held on September 27, 2020, online.

We are proud to congratulate our founder and director, Ketki Pandit who is a member of SWA's Executive Council. She has been actively involved in the ideation and ex*****on of the Awards. She has served on the Jury panel for the 'Best-adapted Web Series' for SWA Awards 2020.

We wish her and all the fellow writers more power, may they roar hard and fly high!
