In Bengali culture, Vijaya Dashami (known as Bijoya Dashami) marks the joyous but tearful conclusion of the five-day Durga Puja festival.

​It celebrates Goddess Durga's decisive victory over the demon Mahishasura. The day's main rituals include Sindoor Khela, where married women apply vermillion to the Goddess and then to each other, praying for marital bliss.

This is followed by the Visarjan, the grand and emotional immersion of the Goddess's idol in water, symbolizing her return to her husband Shiva's home. Finally, Bengalis greet each other with "Shubho Bijoya," exchanging sweets and seeking blessings from elders as a communal celebration.
