SATSANGA999- Session 6 on Yogic Psychology by GurujiRishiputra Balayogi Dr. Anandaji on 10 August 2026.

Yoga is an integral science of life, viewing the human being as a multi-layered existence (three bodies and five koshas) and offering a holistic approach to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

The mind (Antahkarana) comprises four components—Manas (conscious mind), Chitta (subconscious memory), Buddhi (discriminating intellect), and Ahamkara (ego). A harmonious functioning of these faculties is essential for health and balanced living.

Yoga identifies five states of the mind (Chitta Bhumi)—Mudha, Kshipta, Vikshipta, Ekagrata, and Niruddha—and explains that the goal of Yoga is Chitta Vritti Nirodhah, the mastery of the mind through Abhyasa (persistent practice) and Vairagya (detachment).

The five Chitta Vrittis—Pramana (cognition), Viparyaya (misconception), Vikalpa (imagination), Nidra (sleep), and Smriti (memory)—constitute the fluctuations of the mind. Yoga seeks not to suppress them but to transcend identification with them through awareness.

Most suffering originates within the mind. Unlike the worldly person who blames external circumstances, the Yogi recognizes that transformation begins within and that true happiness is discovered internally rather than through external pursuits.

Stress-related disorders are primarily psychosomatic (Adhija Vyadhi). Yogic psychology explains that disturbances originate in the subtler sheaths and eventually manifest as physical disease, emphasizing the mind–body connection.

The Bhagavad Gita describes the chain of stress and suffering: attachment → desire → anger → delusion → loss of memory → destruction of discrimination, ultimately leading to personal downfall.

According to Patanjali, the Pancha Kleshas—Avidya, Asmita, Raga, Dwesha, and Abhinivesha—are the root causes of human suffering. Kriya Yoga (Tapas, Swadhyaya, and Ishwara Pranidhana) purifies these afflictions and leads towards Samadhi.

Yoga as a way of life promotes right thought, right action, right attitude, emotional balance (Samatvam), and conscious living. Practices such as Asana, Pranayama, Dharana, and Dhyana recondition the body, energy system, and mind, fostering integration of the entire personality.

The ultimate goal of Yoga is the evolution of a balanced, compassionate, selfless human being (Sthita Prajna) who lives beyond fear, anger, and ego, works for the welfare of all beings, and embodies universal peace and harmony.
