Andal Kauthuvam | Aadi Pooram

On the auspicious occasion of Andal Jayanti – Aadi Pooram, we are happy to share Andal Kauthuvam, performed by Natyachakra's senior student Ms Niksh*ta Sivakumar NIKSH*TA SIVAKUMAR

Andal, also known as Godha or Nachiyar, is revered for her unwavering devotion to Lord Vishnu and her beautiful compositions, especially the Thiruppavai. She is fondly remembered as “Soodikkoduttha Sudarkodiyaal”, the one who offered the Lord the garland she had first adorned herself.

This beautiful Kauthuvam celebrates Andal’s divine birth, devotion, and love for the Lord through Bharatanatyam.

They couldn’t see the dance. But they could feel every beat. ❤️

Natyachakra - Temple of Dance had the privilege of presenting a Dance Lecture Demonstration and interactive workshop for a group visiting from France, all of whom were visually impaired and accompanied by their assistants.

What surprised and touched us the most was their incredible response to sound and rhythm. Without seeing the movements, they were able to follow the verbal instructions, visualise them in their own way and respond with remarkable clarity and attention.

The workshop was supported by the faculty members and senior students of Natyachakra. Our senior student Premithaa@Dora 𝔓𝔯𝔢𝔪𝔦𝔱𝔥𝔞𝔞 𝔄𝔩𝔦𝔞𝔰 𝔇𝔬𝔯𝔞 also assisted with the French translation, helping the participants follow and engage with the session more comfortably.

It was beautiful to see how deeply rhythm could be understood, movement could be experienced and expression could be communicated even without sight.

This is what makes dance so special. Sometimes, it doesn't have to be seen to be understood.

Online learning makes dance accessible across borders, but some lessons can only be experienced in person.
