Our Bonsai workshop started with a mention of Subaru Kato, a world-renowned Bonsai master who spread peace and friendship internationally through Bonsai art. World Bonsai Day is celebrated on his Birthday, the second Saturday of May.
This month's workshop is an initiation to express their views about Bonsai art. The workshop started with Aniket, who is an encyclopedia of plants.
Aniket has chosen a topic "BONSAI NO MA". He explained through a slideshow the significance of Ma in Bonsai Art. Bonsai is an art of horticulture, aesthetics, and philosophy that emphasizes the space called Ma in Japanese. Zen Buddhism says the space is full of possibilities. Ma means space, distance, or blankness between two objects, animate or inanimate. We are creating Ma in Bonsai by cleaning, pruning, wiring, styling, potting, kusamono, and suiseki. Aniket explained with great enthusiasm and with lots of examples. Thank you, Aniket.
The second session is about "Creating Rock Structures". Rock structure is to choose one type of rock, like carbon rocks, sandstones, or lava stone. It is preferable to choose only one variety to give a natural look to our creation. Most of our members chose carbon rock, because of its persona and light weight. They used cement, sand, and Vetra glue to fix rocks. With their concentration and dedication, they built wonderful creations. The World Bonsai Day was celebrated by cutting the cake, and then we had delicious food. The members expressed their views about our workshops and gave good suggestions. The day went well with lots of enthusiasm from energetic Bonsai lovers.
