We are delighted to be able to present one of the most acclaimed documentaries from Iran.

My Stolen Planet is made by Farahnaz Sharifi who tells her personal story of being forced to migrate to her private planet to be free. She buys other people’s memories in the form of Super 8 films and records and archives her own to create an alternative history of Iran.

The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and went on to win many awards making it one of the most lauded documentaries from Iran.

Meet the filmmaker

Shadi Karamroudi is an Iranian director, producer, and actress. Her latest short film, It Turns Blue, won the Grand Jury Award at the SXSW Film Festival in 2023 and has garnered awards at prestigious festivals such as the Busan International Short Film Festival, Zinebi Film Festival, and Izmir Film Festival.

About the film
One night a man’s dream doesn’t proceed as he ordered. The company that produces dreams tells him that the problem is caused due to the similarity between his dream and a young girl’s dream. He has to spend a day with the woman in the company in order to solve the issue.

Meet the filmmaker

Maryam Bakhtiari is an Iranian filmmaker and actress based in Tehran. She has studied directing in workshops led by Shahram Mokri and Asghar Farhadi, and holds a Master’s degree in Cinema from the University of Tehran. Her debut short film, Falling Up (2022), marked both her first filmmaking project and her first experience as an actor, and was screened at international festivals such as Tirana. Her work explores the boundaries between dream and reality, often engaging with contemporary existence through a poetic and socially conscious lens.

“1001 Frames” was selected for the 56th IFFI in Goa, as part of the Rising Stars section. However, only a few days before the festival the festival informed us that the government has not yet provided them with the required “exemption” and as a result they will not be able to screen the film. We had no idea that like Iran, India also required a government approval. The government simply didn’t provide the exemption and didn’t even bother to provide an explanation. It’s so disappointing that women stories are censored like this in the hands of misogynist governments. A trip that was planned for Goa ended at the Gate of India. We can only hope that the gatekeepers stop standing in the way of women’s voices.
