I feel deeply honoured to have been felicitated at the Classical Music Evening “Lalsa”, organized by the Lalsa Foundation at the historic Gaiety Theatre (Heritage Cultural Complex), Shimla.
It was a moment of pride to share this honour with eminent musicians and dignitaries including Prof. Jeet Ram, Prof. Ramswaroop Shandilya, renowned tabla maestro Shri Kashmiri Lal, Shri Ajay Dogra, Shri Vinod Channa, Shri Ramesh Chand, and Madam Mamta Dogra, among many other respected music lovers.
The evening was graced by Shri Ajay Sharma, Director (Personnel), SJVN, as the Chief Guest. The program began with Dr. Parmanand Bansal, Advisor to the Lalsa Organizing Committee, highlighting the life and contribution of Dr. Lal Chand, followed by Dr. Suresh Sharma extending a warm welcome to the guests and audience.
A mesmerizing dance performance by Aksh*ta Dhiman on the thumri and bhajan composed by Dr. Lal Chand set the tone for the evening. Later, young vocalist Gunjan Channa from Shimla rendered Raga Puriya Dhanashree with soulful aalap and compositions in vilambit and drut teen taal that captivated every listener. The recital concluded with a tarana in a fourteen-beat Ada Chautal, accompanied beautifully by Pt. Rajesh Brahmbhatt on tabla and Shri Brajmohan Madan on harmonium.
The stage then came alive with a spellbinding sitar recital by Dr. Gagan Singh Hothi, a disciple of Acharya Vimalendu Mukherjee and Pt. Buddhaditya Mukherjee, who presented Raga Shuddha Kalyan with alaap, jod, jhala, and intricate gats in vilambit and drut teen taal, concluding with a lively tappa. He was brilliantly accompanied on tabla by Dr. Neeraj Shandilya of the Punjab Gharana.
The event was beautifully coordinated and conducted by Dr. Hemraj Chandel, whose eloquence and grace added charm to the evening.
The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Shri Brij Mohan, Secretary, Lalsa Foundation, expressing gratitude to all the guests and music enthusiasts for their presence and support.
