The sudden and unexpected outbreak of Covid 19 pandemic has affected the entire world. While things are slowly getting on track, a major section of the society is still fighting hard to keep their spirits and income flowing. One of the worst hit among several is the Artists. So, we are making a small effort to promote 3 such artists and their work. 'Uma ...The Journey Within' will be showcased at Skillbox.India on October 11th. Please come forward and show some love for these artists by donating a little something.

*Mr. Subhankar Chatterjee*
About Mr.Subhanakr Chatterjee.
Subhankar was born on 28th , in the state of music and culture, Kolkata(india). Born and brought up in a family of musicians . Subhankar has been living in an environment of music and instruments since childhood.

Subhankar started learning Tabla at the age of Nine. Initially, he learnt the ‘Farukhawad Gharana Style' under the tutelage of Shree Arunava chanda, a renowned percussionist and teacher, who was a disciple of “ Ustad Rashid Mustafa Thirakwa Khan”and Ustad “Sabir Khan”.

At the age of 12,Subhankar's father took him to the ‘TYAAG-(The Yoga and Art Group)' to further his learning of Tabla and also to render him a holistic idea about Indian music.
With learning, came experience and maturity. As a learner,Subhankar started participating in events and competitions held at school, college, state and national levels. He then came to a stage where he started performing in respectable Indian music concerts, such as Akhil Bhartiya Sangeet Samaroh, and Bhatkhande vaarshik ustav. 2 times Topper in graduation in music of collage and university as well.

Now days he is also working as a music producer/ composer and performing as a percussionist in versus bands.

-FOUNDER of renowned Indian Sufi band “THE FREQUENCY PROJECT”.
-CO-FOUNDER of VYAPTI(An institute of performing arts).
-Working as percussionist in “Dastaan live”.

Basically Subhankar is a “Tabla Player” , but he can play more then 30 Percussion Instruments like djembe, Darbuka,Dholak,Drums,Duff,Kanjeera, Beat Box,morchang.

INDIAN- Pakhawaj,Ghatam, Mridangam, Madal, Dhol ,Khol,Naal

He Also Learnt Trash Music. He produce rhythm with Waste material
He always love to play with any sound in rhythm.

NITISHA MONDAL

Trained in Jaipur Gharana for over fifteen years under the tutelage of maestro Pt. Rajendra Gangani, has been performing widely for the last several years. Her first international performance dates back to 2007 in Berlin (Germany) under the ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of India for the festival INCREDIBLE INDIA. This was soon followed by a number of performances and festivals in India and other countries like Egypt, China, Russia, Sweden, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai etc. sponsored by Govt of India, ICCR and few other private bodies. Nitisha is an Honours degree holder from Kathak Kendra, New Delhi as well as recipient of Prabhakar degree from Prayag Sangit Samiti, Allahabad.

Also received coveted scholarships from CCRT (Center for Cultural Research and Training, India) and Kathak Kendra (premium institute of kathak dance, New Delhi, India) respectively.

Along with performances, she often conducts workshops in India as well as overseas, one such was taken in 2016 in Malaysia organised by Swara Arts Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Currently running her own dance school in Dwarka (New Delhi since 2007) as a kathak teacher and facilitator, training a group young learners of various age groups.

APALA VERMA

Apala verma, is young growing professional artist in the field of kathak.
She started her journey of learning this beautiful dance form in her early childhood..she herself consider it as a lifestyle and not just an art to practice.
She took her begginer training under DR. SONIA SHARMA and her former training under VIDUSHI SMT. NANDINI SINGH JI. Herself a gem amongst the jaipur gharana exponents and is still learning.
She has explored the world and still exploring through her performances in INDIA as well as abroad .
She has learned under some renowned GURU'S and famous celebs
through workshops namely: PT. BIRJU MAHARAJ JI
VIDUSHI SMT PRERNA SHRIMALI JI
SMT. LEENA MALAKAR JI
SMT. MAITREYI PAHARI JI
SMT. MAHUA SHANKAR JI

Apala verma is a dedicated performer, teacher and a mentor. Currently she is running her own institute "kathak academy" in DELHI and also promotes various NGO's .

SUSHMITA KANJILAL
Sushmita Kanjilal, a growing young artist in the field of kathak. Sushmita has been living in the environment of music and dance since childhood.
She started her journey towards learning Kathak and understanding this divine art at the age of five. She honed her skills under the watchful eyes of Shreemati Babli Mukherjee, a renowned dancer and teacher. Sushmita learnt kathak in LUKHNOW GHARANA style. She started participating in various competitions and stage shows at an early age. She also holds a coveted ‘Praveen’ degree from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad.
At the age of 18, she joined Kathak Kendra (Delhi) for her further training and developed her skills deeply. Here, she learnt kathak under the guidance of Guru Shikha Khare (Lukhnow gharana). She also learnt Jaipur Gharana Kathak for one year from Guru Mulla Afsar Khan in Kathak Kendra. After that, she was blessed by the renowned artist Padmavibhushan PT. Birju Maharaj ji and her skills were further perfected under his tutelage for two years. Since 2013, Sushmita further perfected her skills under the Kathak Mestro PT. Ram Mohan Maharaj.
She is presently performing in respectable Dance Festivals in India and other countries. She has also performed in the choreographies of maestros Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Ram Mohan Maharaj, Guru Shikha Khare, and Dr.Anjana Jha.
Sushmita is a dedicated learner as well as a highly responsible teacher. Currently, she is running her own music institute in Delhi, and also teaching in various NGOs to promote the rich tradition of Kathak.
