A little girl from Arunachal Pradesh has won hearts across social media after making a simple but emotional request to fellow Indians: please stop calling people from the Northeast “Chinese”.

The girl, identified as Karga Ti**le Gongo from Itanagar, can be seen speaking directly to the camera about how she feels when people mistake her and others from the region for Chinese.

With folded hands, she says being called “Chinese” makes her feel both angry and sad. She then innocently requests people to instead recognise them as Indians, saying, “Humko India bolo, hum India ke hain… hum Itanagar mein rehte hain.”

Her earnest delivery has struck a chord online, with the video being widely shared and users praising the little girl for expressing a much larger issue in the simplest possible words. Many described the clip as both adorable and thought-provoking.

The video has also reopened conversations around the racial stereotyping faced by people from India’s Northeastern states, who are sometimes mistaken for foreigners or subjected to comments about their appearance despite being Indian citizens.

For Karga, however, the message could not be simpler: “We are Indians.”
