DOUBLE HELIX
Carved out of mass.
Balanced on risk.
A solid form that slowly revealed the layered memory of a city — not added, but uncovered.
Commissioned for Andaz Aerocity, New Delhi.
Created in 2016, Double Helix was as much an engineering challenge as it was a sculptural exploration.
The entire structure was cantilevered and carried immense weight. To support this, a heavy-duty MS framework was first built and grouted on site at full scale — forming the unseen backbone of the piece.
Over this, we built a solid volume using Indian fired bricks and old Lahori antique bricks, each carrying its own texture and history.
What followed was a process of reduction.
Instead of constructing forms, we carved them out.
Every architectural detail was chiseled directly from the brick mass — nothing applied, nothing superficial.
The sculpture brings together layered timelines of Delhi:
the precision of Lutyens’,
the depth of Mughal,
and the evolving language of contemporary architecture.
A dialogue between weight and balance,
structure and erosion,
past and present.
