Studio Safdar

Studio Safdar is an independent, non-funded space for arts and activism.

Studio Safdar was established by India's pioneer street theatre group Jana Natya Manch in April 2012. In last two and a half years it has become an adda for theatre groups from Delhi and outside where they can rehearse, perform and conduct workshops. The space is dedicated to encourage engagements with community groups, to foster a culture of understanding and cooperation, aesthetic excellence and

intellectual stimulation. It has established itself as an adda for theatre wallahs, a space to experiment fearlessly, a space for edgy, creative and even dissenting ideas. The space is run by the Studio Safdar Trust, and the Trustees are:

Shubha Mudgal (President), Moloyashree Hashmi (Managing Trustee), Joyoti Roy (Treasurer), Ram Rahman, Keval Arora, Surajit Sarkar, Praveen Vadhera and Sudhanva Deshpande (Executive Director, Studio Safdar).

The play explores Werner Heisenberg’s visit to Niels Bohr and Margrethe Bohr in Copenhagen in 1941. It touches on themes such as guilt, doubt, relationships, and the limitations of the human mind. Further, the play draws parallels between Physics and life. The entire play is a conversation between the ghosts of the three characters who are trying to make sense of the lives they lived.

Navmanchan Theatre Group presents Anton Chekhov's 'The Proposal.

Synopsis:

The Proposal is a one-act farcical comedy by Anton Chekhov about Lomov, a nervous landowner who visits his neighbour Chubukov to propose marriage to his daughter Natalya. However, instead of expressing their feelings, Lomov and Natalya become involved in ridiculous arguments over land ownership and a hunting dog. Their constant quarrelling turns a simple marriage proposal into a hilarious battle of pride, ego, and misunderstanding. The play humorously exposes human greed, stubbornness, social expectations, and the comic nature of relationships, making it a lively and entertaining theatrical experience.

What a wonderful week it has been at Studio Safdar with

On Sunday, participants explored the nuances of desire, storytelling, and craft in The Art of Erotica writing workshop, conducted by Bhushan Korgaonkar.

On Tuesday, we were captivated by Akshay Mavlankar's vibrant Lavani performance, followed by an engaging conversation with Bhushan on Lavani as a rich and evolving art form. The evening concluded with a beautiful theatrical performance by Akshay() and Kunal ( ).

The Art of Erotica – A Writing Workshop by Bhushan Korgaonkar

Have you ever wondered how writers use words to evoke desire, intimacy, and emotion? What makes erotica engaging rather than gratuitous? How can one explore themes of sexuality and sensuality through writing in a safe, respectful, and creative environment?

After successful editions in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Panjim, and Ahmedabad, The Art of Erotica is coming to Delhi for the first time. This workshop is meant for writers, beginners, students, and artists.

In this workshop, you will:
• Learn to navigate the fine line between the evocative and the excessive, and discover the fundamentals of compelling erotic writing.
• Explore various aspects of sexuality and sensuality through guided writing exercises.
• Identify your unique voice and niche as a writer.
• Gain practical techniques, insights, and tools to strengthen your craft and deepen your understanding of the genre.

About the Facilitator
Bhushan Korgaonkar is a writer, translator, theatre-maker, and workshop facilitator who has conducted erotica writing workshops at universities and institutions across India. His fiction explores sexuality and crime, while his popular Storytel stories and writings for Loksatta and Mint Lounge reflect his diverse interests. He translated Shahu Patole’s Dalit Kitchens of Marathwada (HarperCollins) into English. A long-time researcher of Lavani traditions, he is the author of the award-winning Sangeet Bari and creator of acclaimed stage productions. He has also written songs exploring desire, agency, and empowerment for short films and music projects.
