Threads of Tradition: Phulkāri

Phulkāri or ‘art of flowers’ is a unique and intricate folk embroidery of dupattas & shawls from Punjab. For centuries, on the birth of girl in Punjab – considered auspicious – the grandmothers would start embroidering a Phulkāri.

This was thus an outcome of domestic work created by women of the household to prepare for a future bride’s wedding trousseau.
