Ever wondered why the 'B' in decibel (dB) always in Upper case?
Ans:The decibel is actually 1/10 of Bel (a unit named after Alexander Graham Bell, which is why the 'B' in dB is upper case.
Definition of dB: The dB always describes the ratio of two quantities, quantities that are most often related to power. The reason why db is used is that its logarithmic and therefore smaller numbers can be used to express values that otherwise would require more digits.

Logarithms ?? Logarithms allow smaller numbers to represent much larger numbers .

Going to basic algebra X^y= Z
X =base, y=is the power to which X is raised , z= the computed number.If the base is 10 then y can be called the log of Z.This simply means y is the number to which 10 must be raised to get Z

10^3=1000 i.e log of 1000 is 3

This means 3 can be used to represent 1000 as long as it is known that 3 is a logarithm.Antilog basically refers to the reverse process. If 3 is the log of 1000 then 1000 is the antilog of 3. Antilog is the number you get when you raise 10 to the log value.
