A soldier who served the nation in some of its toughest environments is now fighting the toughest battle of his own life.

Defence officer Sanjeev Kumar was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer while serving in Ladakh last year. Since then, he has undergone major surgery, 17 cycles of chemotherapy and CyberKnife radiotherapy. However, according to his family’s fundraising appeal, his latest scans have shown that the disease has progressed and spread further.

His wife, Kavita Jaswal, says that after exhausting the available treatment options in India, the family is now looking towards a targeted therapy called Daraxonrasib, which is available in the United States. The cost of travel, medical evaluation, treatment, hospitalisation, monitoring and future medication is far beyond what the family can manage on its own.

Sanjeev has served the country in challenging conditions, including high-altitude regions and counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in Kashmir and the North East. Today, his family is asking the public to stand beside him as he continues his battle against cancer.

Actor Omi Vaidya, who played the memorable role of Chatur "Silencer" in 3 Idiots, has come out in support of Sonam Wangchuk as the activist's hunger strike entered its 17th day.

In a heartfelt video, Vaidya reminded people that Wangchuk was the real-life inspiration behind the film's character Phunsukh Wangdu. "I don't want Phunsukh Wangdu to die. Whether you agree with him or not, I don't want this guy to die. He's a pretty impressive person, and I want him to live," he said.

The actor also recalled meeting Wangchuk and described him as a humble person who has done "some incredible stuff." Expressing concern over his health, Vaidya said, "He's been on a very long hunger strike. His blood sugar has gone down a lot. I don't know if the media is reporting this, but this is a very important issue."

Urging people not to stay silent, he appealed to the public to spread awareness and support the cause. "Please share this, post about it, and if you really care, reach out to your local or national representatives. These things matter, and I hope you think they matter too," he said.

The emotional appeal has gone viral on social media, with many praising Vaidya for using his platform to highlight Wangchuk's health and the need for dialogue.
