भारत के राष्ट्रपति, उपराष्ट्रपति, राज्यों के राज्यपाल और कई VVIP की कारों पर रजिस्ट्रेशन नंबर प्लेट इसलिए नहीं होती है, क्योंकि भारत में आज भी ब्रिटिश के बनाए हुए कई नियम-कानून माने जा रहे हैं। ब्रिटिश कानून के अनुसार, THE KING CAN DO NO WRONG यानी कि 'राजा कुछ' गलत नहीं कर सकता' के आधार पर चल रही हैं। बिना नंबर प्लेट के विदेश मंत्रालय के पास भी लगभग 14 कारें मौजूद हैं।
