Most people look at art and ask, "Do I like it?"

Over time, as we spend more time with art, we begin to ask deeper questions.

What draws our eye first? How does the colour make us feel? What makes the work unique? How was it created? And most importantly, does it leave a lasting impression?

Learning to look beyond the surface can transform the way we experience art. The more we observe, question, and connect, the more rewarding the journey becomes.

The true test of an artwork isn't just how it looks in a gallery. It's whether you would stop to look at it again, enjoy living with it every day, and still be thinking about it long after you've walked away.

When that happens, you're no longer just looking at art, you're building a relationship with it.

NFN Kalyan says - β€œMy thought behind the painting is somewhat complex. I often try to depict the universal form of Krishna in non-traditional ways.

Krishna revealed his form on a battlefield, so I chose to place the work within that context. But the connection between the battlefield, the gold frame, and the explosive clouds is left open for the viewer to interpret.

When reading the Bhagavad Gita, the universal form is not simply about many heads and many arms. It represents the totality of existence, all aspects of the universe at once.

Just as multiple heads and arms are only one way of expressing that vastness, this painting explores another aspect of existence and cosmic form.

It is ultimately a painting for contemplation. The viewer is free to bring their own thoughts, emotions, and interpretations to it.”

Based directly on a painting by Frank Dicksee, Far Wells Mill Valley reimagines a classical romantic scene through NFN Kalyan’s charged visual language. Myth, memory, and destruction collide as luminous figures emerge from darkness, carrying both tenderness and chaos within the same frame.

A meeting of two distinct yet deeply resonant artistic worlds.
NFN Kalyan explores the intersections of social justice, politics, religion, and the human condition through a practice shaped by layered cultural experiences between India and the United States.

Jayesh Sachdev builds immersive visual universes where surrealism, mythology, pop culture, and contemporary symbolism dissolve into one another.

HE WHO PERMEATES brings these two practices into dialogue, revealing a shared impulse to question, transcend, and reimagine familiar frameworks. Curated by Mihir Thakkar.

Joining us from LA, artist NFN Kalyan speaks about his work β€˜Pandora’ - a collision of Indian mythology and anime culture, where ancient archetypes meet hyper-contemporary visual language.

Rendered in oil on canvas, the work moves between chaos and fantasy, layering mythological figures, surreal symbolism, and vibrant pop imagery to reflect the fragmented reality of modern life.
