Natyashastra is considered the Fifth Veda and is as old as the Rigveda. It was composed systematically by Bharat Muni. To compose this shastra, Brahma first evoked the four Vedas. On its completion he offered it to the Devatas who refused to receive it. They said, we cannot hold this Natya because we cannot perform the penance and Meditation necessary for it. Only a Yogi can hold it. Adi Yogi Shiva accepted and was called Natraj. Natyashastra in a way is a treatise of Yoga. A Yogi sees the drama of the world within himself. Bharatmuni explains the purpose of Natyashastra. When people are unhappy and distressed , the fifth Veda provides relief to them through Dance , drama & music.
