Vikram, Smita Patil, and Naseeruddin Shah came together in Situm (1982), a film that explored complex human emotions, moral dilemmas, and the realities of society. Smita Patil, known for her powerful portrayals, delivered yet another deeply moving performance, capturing the essence of a woman caught in the struggle between love, justice, and fate. The celebrated music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan, undergoing treatment for prostate cancer at a hospital in Kolkata passed away on Wednesday. The 55-year-old artist, was on a ventilator and was receiving oxygen support.

Several musicians like Sonu Nigam and Vishal Dadlani took to their social media handles to pay tribute to the late singer.

Sonu Nigam wrote, “My dear Respected Elder Brother and the Pride of Classical Music of our Country Padmabhushan Ustad Rashid Khan Sahab. Aise koi jaata hai kya bhai? Akele akele? Saddened beyond words. Allah aapko jannat me aala makaam de. You’ll be missed always.”

“Extremely sad news… Ustad Rashid Khan Ji passes away… this is a huge loss to the world of music. He will always be remembered for his excellence in music and his voice will reverberate in our hearts forever (sic),” says Harshdeep Kaur.

Vishal Dadlani took to his Instagram story and wrote, “What a loss! This is terrible news!”

Ustad Rashid Khan Sahab was on born 1 July 1968 in Sahswan, Budaun is an Indian classical musician in the Hindustani music tradition. He belongs to the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, and is the great-grandson of gharana founder Inayat Hussain Khan.

He received his initial training from his maternal grand-uncle, Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan (1909–1993). He is also the nephew of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan.
His musical talents were first recognized by his uncle, Ghulam Mustafa Khan, who provided initial training in Mumbai. However, the primary training was received from Nissar Hussain Khan, initially at his residence in Badayun.

At the age of eleven, Rashid Khan delivered his debut concert, and in the subsequent year, 1978, he graced the stage at an ITC concert in Delhi.

In a story told in several versions, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi once remarked that Rashid Khan was the "assurance for the future of Indian vocal music".

He was awarded the Padma Shri, as well as the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2006. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian award, in 2022 by the Indian Government in the field of Art.
