Experimental Drawing Intensive
For students serious about portfolios, creativity & visual thinking

Students will:
— work on large scale
— create multiple studies before final works
— experiment with ink, charcoal, layering & unconventional materials
— build portfolio-ready artwork through real process + exploration

A four-year-old once showed me a drawing of the sun.
Perfectly round. Bright yellow. Tiny straight rays all around it.

I asked her to tell me about it.

And she said,
“My teacher showed me how to make it properly.”

And I remember thinking…

At what age do children stop drawing what they see…
and start drawing what feels acceptable?

Because young children are not meant to create perfect images.
They are meant to explore. Exaggerate. Observe. Imagine.

But when we rush them toward “correctness,” they slowly begin to look outward for approval instead of inward for ideas.

And very quickly, art becomes less about seeing…
and more about getting it right.

The irony is—children often lose confidence long before they lose interest.

Maybe the goal is not a perfect sun.

Maybe the goal is a child who still notices one.

Expressions aren’t taught by copying a ‘happy face.’

They’re built by noticing—
how much an eyebrow lifts,
how a mouth shifts,
how eyes change everything.

This is where observation begins.
And where original work starts.

We started with mysterious marks…
and ended up discovering entire alien worlds.

Glowing skies, strange terrains, and creatures no one has ever seen before—
until now.

Let’s say it clearly.

If an art class sends home 15 identical paintings…
that’s not creativity.
That’s compliance.

Real art education is messy.
Unpredictable.
Personal.

This self-portrait is bold. Slightly exaggerated. Full of choices.
Because this artist wasn’t told what her face should look like.
She was asked what she noticed.

That difference matters.

We don’t produce matching canvases.
We build visual thinkers.

Children here learn:
• Observation
• Risk-taking
• Independent decision-making
• Technical skill with intention

And yes — that’s exactly why our students build strong portfolios and real confidence.

Happy Birthday, dearest Bins

We miss you every single day, but today even more. You were so full of life, always smiling and never giving up, even when things were hard. I’ll never forget our shopping trips, our long chats, and the way you would light up when we binged on desserts together. You were such a force—so proud of your kids, committed to your family, and always dancing through life with that incredible spirit.

We still laugh remembering how many friends you had, and how we joked about booking a stadium for your wedding. It’s been three years, and life’s never been the same without you. But we feel you with us, in every smile, every dance, every sweet memory.

You lived with such joy, and we’ll keep that with us, always. I love you and miss you more than words can say.
