“You taught me to walk… and then you taught me to fly. ❤️”
On the occasion of Guru Purnima, this performance is my little surprise for my Guruji. ❤️
Just as a child takes their first steps by holding their parents’ finger, my journey in Kathak began by holding my Guruji’s hand. She taught me to take those first steps, showed me the right path, and today, she has made me capable of moving forward with confidence and finding my own wings.
Through this performance, I have tried to express that beautiful journey — where I started, how my Guruji guided me at every step, and how her hard work, teachings, patience and belief in me have brought me to where I am today.
From ang-hast and Kathak technique to discipline, dedication, behaviour and the right values of an artist, I have learned so much from her. She has also taught me to respect our culture and traditions, and to carry them forward with sincerity.
Even in this performance, I have taken guidance from my Guruji and tried to present the choreography according to what I have learned from her. This is not just a performance for me; it is a small way of expressing my gratitude for everything she has taught me and for the journey she has helped me create.
Thank you so much, Guruji, for taking me from where I started to where I am today. ❤️
I hope I can continue to learn, grow and perform Kathak with the same dedication, and make you proud by carrying forward everything you have taught me.
Forever grateful to my Guru. 🙏❤️
