Actor Prakash Raj has criticised a political party over its opposition to a proposed event in Bengaluru featuring former student leader Umar Khalid, who is an accused in the 2020 Delhi riots case.

Raj’s remarks came after Union minister Pralhad Joshi urged the Karnataka government to revoke permission for the event, saying individuals with a “divisive background” should not be given a platform and that public safety and national security must take precedence.

Responding on social media, Raj wrote that the criticism reflected hypocrisy, alleging that parties which “garland and celebrate rapists and murderers” were raising objections to the event. The exchange has triggered a political debate over free speech, public safety, and the ongoing legal cases linked to the Delhi riots.
