So, what did you have for breakfast today? .

This meme is inspired by a short form Improv game called "New Choice". In this game, players perform a scene based on an audience suggestion. At any point during the scene, the host may call for a โ€œNew Choice,โ€ at which point the previous line of dialogue and/or action is replaced with a new line of dialogue and/or action.

Example: "I'm having breakfast, put all calls on hold"
* New choice *

"This is caramel, not hazelnut coffee. I want my money back!"
* New Choice *

"You know what Joe, may be you should give up on your dream of becoming a pole dancer."

"You don't listen, do you?" - Arthur, Joker (2019).
Active listening followed by "yes, and" are the very foundations of Improv. This meme embodies one of the "7 Sins of Improv" - Blocking.
Blocking means negating the ideas or suggestions of other people (or yourself).

Here's an example:
Improviser A: "The sun looks lovely from up here, mother"
Improviser B: "But isn't it way past midnight ?"

(Based on very real events)

Don't you wish sometimes that you could just swap places with someone who you're sure has it easier? Well, 'Chatacter Switch' lets you do exactly that! .
2 improvisers start a scene, and make distinct strong physical and vocal choices. The scene is played until we know the characters. Then the roles are reversed, and every player plays the other's character, in the same scene, same location. Add a third character to the mix and you have a recipe for madness. This is great fun for everyone as the scene usually descends into (hopefully orderly) chaos.

In the comments is a clip from Pooja, Praneev and Vikrant's Character Switch at the Bengaluru Improv Festival where two employees argue with their boss about leaves. We leave it to you to figure out who is who.

We got no gamma lab, but we do go from "Hulk" to "Professor Hulk" in moments - in the improv lab!

Emotional List / Feelings List / Emotional Roller Coaster / Continuing Emotions is a short form improv game. The MC takes a list of emotions from the audience (somehow at every show the list ends up including "h***y" ๐Ÿค”).

A "neutral" scene is then improvised and the MC at any point may interrupt (by calling freeze) and assign an emotion from the list to either one or all the improvisers. The scene continues, albeit with the emotion so assigned. The MC has the discretion to keep changing (read: challenging) the improvisers, leading to an emotional roller coaster of sorts. The game ends at a high point, or ultimate emotional exhaustion - whatever comes first.

Could this meme BE any more relevant? Let's make the right kind of things go viral! "Story, Story, Die" is a very popular short form improv game. Here's a helpful description (Source: Improvencyclopedia.org): "Players form a line on the stage. A title for a story, and a story genre is obtained from the audience. The MC starts the game by pointing to a player, who needs to start telling the story. At any point in time the MC can switch to another player, who needs to continue the story flawlessly, even if the switch happened in the middle of a sentence or even in the middle of a word.

Players that hesitate, or whose sentences are not grammatically correct or don`t make sense, are boo-ed out of the game, by the audience yelling "Die". The last player left ends the story."

What a lovely way to flag off improv shows in 2020!

We were hosted by RangPunch NMIMS (Dramatics Club of SBM, NMIMS Mumbai) for their event "Comedy Of Errors". We were absolutely thrilled to perform for the brilliant audience at NMIMS!! Thank you so much for having us!

Special thanks to Atul Sharma for kickstarting the evening with his stand up set. Your wit and humour set the tone for the entire show!

A BIG shoutout to Karan Chauhan for concluding the show by weaving magic on stage (literally) and mesmerising us all, as usual!

Here's to telling stories and spreading happiness. Cheers!
