Shivdas Ghodke Sir is no more with us in this physical world but his legacy as a teacher, designer and director will keep inspiring generations of theatre practitioners and spectators of performing arts.
He was more than a teacher to students. In the Mumbai university theatre department he was our set design teacher but his knowledge and skills in every department of theatre was terrific. Especially for outsiders like us he was a guardian, friend and guide.
As a theatre director he was fearless and versatile. He never shied away from experiments and did plays in various forms, genre and style, giving opportunities to so many actors and technicians. He shaped the career of many artists. He never surrendered to commercial theatre and kept doing meaningful and pathbreaking theatre.
He was fighting from cancer for years as a warrior but never stopped working as a teacher and director. In fact he was reading, watching art, writing and working on film and theatre projects a lot more than before.
