कई बार हम लोगों को टीवी सीरियल में नारद मुनि को एक चाटुकार और चुगलीबाज की तरह प्रदर्शित करते हुए दिखाया गया है। जिन लोगों ने हमारे ग्रंथों को नहीं पढ़ा है उनके मन में नारद मुनि को लेकर गलत छवि बनना सम्भव है

परंतु क्या नारद मुनि सिर्फ इतने ही थे?
नारद मुनि ब्रह्मा के मानस पुत्रों में से एक है। उन्होने कठिन तपस्या से ब्रह्मर्षि पद प्राप्त किया है। शास्त्रों में इन्हें भगवान का मन कहा गया है। इसी कारण सभी युगों में, सब लोकों में, समस्त विद्याओं में, समाज के सभी वर्गो में नारदजी का सदा से प्रवेश रहा है।
देवताओं ने ही नहीं, वरन् दानवों ने भी उन्हें सदैव आदर दिया है। श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता के दशम अध्याय के २६वें श्लोक में स्वयं भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने इनकी महत्ता को स्वीकार करते हुए कहा है - देवर्षीणाम्चनारद:। देवर्षियों में मैं नारद हूं।
श्रीमद्भागवत महापुराणका कथन है, सृष्टि में भगवान ने देवर्षि नारद के रूप में तीसरा अवतार ग्रहण किया और सात्वततंत्र (जिसे नारद-पाञ्चरात्र भी कहते हैं) का उपदेश दिया जिसमें सत्कर्मो के द्वारा भव-बंधन से मुक्ति का मार्ग दिखाया गया है।
महाभारत में नारदजी के व्यक्तित्व का परिचय इस प्रकार दिया गया है - देवर्षि नारद वेद और उपनिषदों के मर्मज्ञ, देवताओं के पूज्य, इतिहास-पुराणों के विशेषज्ञ, पूर्व कल्पों (अतीत) की बातों को जानने वाले, न्याय एवं धर्म के तत्त्‍‌वज्ञ, शिक्षा, व्याकरण, आयुर्वेद, ज्योतिष के विद्वान, प्रभावशाली वक्ता, मेधावी, कवि, महापण्डित, बृहस्पति जैसे महाविद्वानोंकी शंकाओं का समाधान करने वाले, धर्म-अर्थ-काम-मोक्ष के यथार्थ के ज्ञाता, योगबलसे समस्त लोकों के समाचार जान सकने में समर्थ, सांख्य एवं योग के सम्पूर्ण रहस्य को जानने वाले,
देवताओं के उपदेशक, समस्त शास्त्रों में प्रवीण, सद्गुणों के भण्डार, सदाचार के आधार, परम तेजस्वी, सभी विद्याओं में निपुण है।

|| Happy Guru Poornima ||



Today is Guru-purnima. Srila Prabhupada has explained that the system of honoring the spiritual master is current in all sections of Vedic followers. In the Mayavadi (impersonalist) sects, the disciples offer respect to the spiritual master every year on Guru-purnima. And in the Gaudiya Vaisnava sampradaya, the disciples offer homage annually on the appearance day of the spiritual master; this occasion is called Vyasa-puja, because the spiritual master represents Vedavyasa, the empowered incarnation of Krsna who compiled the Vedic literatures, and the bona fide spiritual master presents the same knowledge through disciplic succession. Yet although Guru-purnima is generally observed by the Mayavadi groups, because today has been announced as Guru-purnima, we shall take the opportunity to discuss the principle of guru–and glorify the acarya-sampradaya.

Guru is a deep subject. We sing, vande ‘ham sri-guroh sri-yuta-pada-kamalam sri-gurun vaisnavams ca. We offer respects to the spiritual master in singular, to the spiritual masters in plural, and to all Vaisnavas. The singular spiritual master is our personal spiritual master, the plural spiritual masters are the predecessor acaryas, and the Vaisnavas are the followers of the spiritual master. We offer respects to them all, because they all come in the same line, the disciplic succession (parampara) from Krsna Himself.

Srila Prabhupada explains, “The offering of respect to the spiritual master means offering respect to all the previous acaryas. Gurun means plural number. All the acaryas, they are not different from one another, because they are coming in the disciplic succession from the original spiritual master and they have no different views.” Thus we offer respects to the predecessors.

Similarly, we offer respects to the followers. Srila Prabhupada explains further, “Spiritual master means they must have many followers, who are all Vaisnavas. They are called prabhus, and the spiritual master is called Prabhupada, because at his lotus feet there are many prabhus. Pada means ‘lotus foot.’ All these Vaisnavas are prabhus. So they are also offered respectful obeisances–not the spiritual master alone, but along with his associates. And these associates, his disciples, are all Vaisnavas. Therefore they should also be offered respectful obeisances.
