I am not crying, you are crying! 😭

An old video from 2019.. but, still so relevant! Why is it so relevant even? Why does this development always come at the cost of our children's present & future? Have we not learnt from our past mistakes? If the welfare of citizens is the primary objective of policy makers then why are so many citizens left begging for change, begging for their voices to be heard!?

We just hope that they realise, sooner than later, that the forests hold the future.. and that future is ours!!

The Save Aarey Movement in 2019 saw several theatre artists voice their concerns through their art. They also came on ground to perform in solidarity with the Aarey forest and to raise awareness. We salute each and every one of them and send them the best of wishes for all their endeavours!

Also, we have a special announcement to make...watch out for this space!

This Before-After picture is a picturesque symbol of the working model being implemented by the current regime throughout the country. ह्यांचे खायचे दात वेगळे आणि दाखवायचे दात वेगळे.

It's all about how an eyewash of a grand foreground is created in the name of development that is projected by the state functionaries as against the true ulterior motives which is played out in the background.

This is the most heart-wrenching thing you will see on the internet today if you have at least 1% concern towards climate change.

We need a system change. Asap. Period.

The period between 4th-6th October 2019 is definitely a stain on the rich history of the city of Mumbai. You can neither make us forget about it nor repay it in any way!

So, let's burn this inhumane tendency of destroying the very existence of nature itself...

Let's stop the destruction of nature under the veil of development..

Happy Vijayadashmi to all! 🍃

Yesterday after the Sundays for Aarey weekly protest, several activists from the Save Aarey Movement went to watch the movie, "Peepal Tree", directed by National Award winning director Kranti Kanade.

It was an emotional ride for all of us considering the relevance of every moment in the film in our lives. When the silence amongst us ended after the end of the movie we tried to strike up conversations with other cinegoers. All of them sympathised with the efforts of all activists and enquired about ways to join the movement.

Reiterating again and again.. Art keeps movements alive!

Thank you Kranti Kanadé and team for giving us Peepal Tree. 🙏🏼

And to all the Vinod Jains across the world... Johar ✊🏼🌳❤️

Some glimpses from today's Sundays for Aarey protest for the welfare of Aarey forest. 🌳🐆❤️

Today, the CPI(M) party organised a protest at the Birsa Munda Chowk in Aarey forest. It was interesting to observe that when common Mumbaikars who turn up on every Sunday are met with intimidation from the police and cases are filed against them. But, when political parties (be it any) do the same thing, the police doesn't bat an eye.

Anyhow, we would like to reiterate that the Save Aarey Movement is an organic, voluntary, citizen's movement. And citizen's should never be brand ambassadors of any particular political party, but consumers to all. If we like their product we keep it, else, reject it.

We hope that every other political party remembers Aarey forest in their manisfestos while contesting elections. Because, we cannot forget, and we should not forget, that the Metro 3 Car Shed project is just an opening door to multiple other projects that could ruin an entire, pristine ecosystem of Aarey forest!

Jaagte Raho!

Johar ✊🏼🌳❤️

“What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another”
- M. K. Gandhi.

It is absolutely numbing to learn that between 2015 & 2019 the Ministry of States for Environment itself ordered cutting down a whopping 1,09,75,844 trees throughout India!

The people of this country should know that there must be approximately 7 trees per person for leading a healthy life. But, the situation in metropolitan cities like Mumbai is the exact opposite! And yet, we see endless attacks on a pristine ecosystem of the lungs of Mumbai, the Aarey forest!

At a time when the entire world is reeling under the harsh effects of global warming & climate change, do you think that such ruthless destruction of the ecological system is justifiable?

Should we then change the word from "Development" to "Devil'opment"?

Thank you Kranti Kanade for voicing the concerns of common citizens of this country on the big screen on a special day for film enthusiasts, the National Cinema Day. 🙏🏼

"PEEPAL TREE" - Releasing in Pune today, 23rd September 2022, and in Mumbai and elsewhere on 24th September 2022! Do not miss!

This is exactly what the trend has been over the past decades in India, especially Mumbai, where the politicians have been always keen on introducing new infrastructure development rather than focussing on bettering the existing ones.

And this also what experts have been critical about when it came to importing cheetahs from Africa.

Hope that common sense prevails in this country one day.

Amen!

11th September marks the National Forest Martyr's Day in India. It was started in 2013 on the anniversary of Khejarli massacre in Marwar, in 1730, where 363 Bishnoi villagers were killed while they hugged Khejri trees to protect them from cutting. This was the inspiration for the famous Chipko Movement of the 1970's.

The National Martyr's Day is observed each year as a tribute, respect and gratitude towards all those who helped protect the forests of India. It was also shared by the social media handles of Indian Government.

But, on ground, yesterday we saw a totally contrasting sight to what the government was posting online. Even a handful of Mumbaikars here to protest peacefully against the Car Shed project were met with an army of policemen at the Birsa Munda Chowk in Aarey forest. These common citizens also received letters (attached in comments section) from the Police under Sec 149 which is yet another attempt at intimidation and demoralisation of Mumbaikars to break their morale.

We request Mumbaikars, and all Indians, to open their eyes to these devious tactics by the Maharashtra State Government in association with the Central Government to target and suppress ordinary citizens who raise their voice against systemic oppression of the forests, wildlife & adivasis throughout the country.

Waiting for the day when our politicians will walk the talk and practice what they preach. 🙏🏼
