Paithani (Marathi: पैठणी) is a sari, named after the Paithan town in Aurangabad district from state of Maharashtra in India where the sari was first made by hand.

Paithani sarees have a long history that dates back to the Satvahana Dynasty in the second century BC. At that time, cotton and silk were combined with pure gold wire to create the paithani.
Only royalty wore this paithani at the time. Due to its origins in the former city of Pratishthan, now known as Paithan, Paithani was also known as "Pratishthani." There are references to Paithani in numerous classical Buddhist and Hindu writings. Another name for Paithani is "Dev vastra" (God's fabric).
Under the Peshwas' support, the Paithani flourished in the 18th century.

This rich culture of ours is being encouraged and displayed with such elegance and grandeur here at NMACC.
