Morinda(Bagan Wala) "the city of orchids" ,''ਬਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ''

Morinda city morinda town morinda punjab n It is also known as Baganwala, "the city of orchids".

Morinda is a city and a municipal council in Rupnagar district in the Indian state of Punjab. Morinda is known in the local region for housing one of the 23 sugar mills in the state of Punjab. This is because large orchids occupied it once which were eventually cleared for housing. As far as its geographical condition is concerned, the city is located on NH 95 (Connecting Chandigarh and Ludhiana).

This benefits the local businesses, enabling the city's development and expansion. Today, Morinda grows at a faster rate than its neighbouring towns. A lot of industries of nearby towns such as Bassi Pathana have moved to Morinda. Adding to the historical significance of the town is Gurudwara Shri Kotwaali Sahib. This was the prison (kotwaali) where the Mother, Maata Gujri of 10th Sikh Guru (Guru Gobind Singh) and his two sons were kept as prisoners before being taken to Fatehgarh Sahib where the sons sacrificed their lives. They were buried alive in the walls and later Maata Gujri also ended her life at the same place. This city is an intersection point of Nangal-Ludhiana, Patiala- Nangal and Chandigarh - Ludhiana Highways. Recently a city bypass has been built to reduce the traffic congestion in the town. The Railway station in Morinda has been moved out of town towards Bassi.
