It started with a wall, a few coloured chalks, and a 3-year-old with a quiet obsession for colour.
Decades, detours, and dozens of brushes later, something very close to my heart is finally making its way to the world.

🖼️ I’m delighted to share that a couple of my artworks will be part of a National Art Exhibition at Lokayata Art Gallery, Delhi, this 26 and 27 July.

While I won’t be attending in person, a very real part of me will be there, layered into every brushstroke, shadow, and silence on those canvases.

This moment feels surreal. And a little emotional. Because it belongs just as much to the little girl who once believed that art was her secret language. Here’s to her 🩵
And here’s to sharing a piece of that story with all of you.
🌸If you find yourself in Hauz Khas this week, do drop by and if something lingers, I’d love to know what you felt.

रूमी दरवाज़ा • رومی دروازہ • Rumi Darwaza

Built by Nawab Asaf-Ud-Daula in 1784, Rumi Darwaza, an example of Awadhi architecture, stands sixty feet tall and was modeled after the Sublime Porte (Bab-iHümayun) in Istanbul.

It used to mark the entrance to Old Lucknow. When the city grew and expanded, it was used as an entrance to a palace which was later demolished by the British Raj following the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

There is another interesting story behind the completion of Rumi Darwaza. The Kingdom of Awadh was struck by famine during his rule. Being the proud citizens they were, people refused to accept help from the royal treasury for free. So Asaf-ud-Daula launched a food-for-work programme, which meant surplus labour for the expansion of the up-and-coming city, as well as a source of income in a famine-ridden time. He was renowned as a wise and generous leader.

Used watercolour dot cards. Love the range of colours ♥️

Dilkusha Kothi is the remains of an 18th CE house built in the English baroque style in the quiet Dilkusha area of Lucknow in India, constructed by the British resident Major Gore Ouseley, a friend of the ruler of Oudh, Nawab Saadat Ali Khan.

It was initially intended as a hunting lodge for the Nawabs of Oudh, although it was later used as a summer resort too.

Changes were made to its design by Nawab, King Nasir-ud-Din Haider (1827-1837). The building had patterned walls and unusually no inner courtyard as was traditional in Indian architecture.

The one where sustainability meets art💜

Kumbhi Kagaz from Guwahati, Assam, re-purpose water hyacinth (which notoriously creates ecological imbalance) by using it to make thick paper, thus saving trees, and the environment altogether!

ShVed Kala by Srishti Ved Singh, contributed to the cover art by painting one of the decorated jaali windows from the Lal Baradari in Lucknow.

Lal Baradari in Lucknow was the only red stone building in the Nawabi era built during the reign of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan (1798-1
