This World Theatre Day, we don’t just celebrate performance we honour presence.
At Repertwahr, the stage is not a space, it’s a state of being.
Where bodies become language and stories don’t just unfold… they inhabit.
Here’s to the art that refuses to be contained and to every artist who dares to feel, express and become. 🎭✨

The Repertwahr Story

Conceived on a rainy night in a mud hut, high up in the Uttarakhand mountains, Repertwahr was an idea whose time had come. Frustrated at the lack of opportunities or exposure in his city, a young man from Lucknow joins a theatre boot camp in the lap of nature. By the end of the workshop, he knew what he had to do. He could either keep on carping about the situation; Or he could do something about it.

With the help of like minded friends who shared his passion, he puts together a team of novices and scrapes together the resources to launch a five-day theatre festival in 2009, the very first of its kind in the city of Lucknow. It was for the first time that a private, non-aided entity had successfully conceived and executed a whole festival to celebrate theatre as an art form. It was also the first time that a Lucknow audience, weaned on free shows and complimentary passes was being asked to cough up INR 100 - INR 300 for a theatre show.

From its very onset, Repertwahr has firmly believed that arts need to be self-sustainable. An artist does not need to exist in perennial penury as proof of his creativity. We believe in giving arts the respect that they well and truly deserve. It has been tough going, trying to change a city's mindset, but over the years, Repertwahr has carefully cultivated a nuanced and appreciative crowd that is willing to pay for the privilege of attending a world-class performance. Our Sponsors and Partners have enabled us to subsidise the cost of these productions so that we never have to compromise on the quality of our presentations.
