Do writers really have to be the moral compass of a nation?

“Morality has shifted. Heroes can be flawed, villains can be human.”

Vaibhav Vishal gets candid about the line between creative freedom and social responsibility and why writers shouldn’t have to become the nation’s moral science teachers.

A thought-provoking conversation from “Scripted Realities”, featuring Vaibhav Vishal in conversation with Somya Singh at Koshala Literature Festival Edition 4.

Can rules written centuries ago really decide how women should live today?

“You cannot quote something that was written in the 2nd and 3rd century BC and apply it to women today. Maybe it made sense then but things are different now.”

In “The Threads of Grace”, Anindita Ghose in conversation with Ashwitha Jayakumar questions the practice of using centuries-old texts and ideas to dictate how women should live, dress, or conduct themselves in the present.

Because times change. Lives change. And the rules we live by should be questioned too.

A thought-provoking excerpt from Koshala Literature Festival Edition 4.

What if 'gaari'was once a part of welcoming the baraat?

When Ram came to Mithila to marry Sita, women welcomed the baraat with traditional 'gaari', playful songs filled with teasing, humour and a little mischief.

In “The Sound Tales”, Nimisha Sharma takes us through this fascinating Mithila tradition and explains how 'gaari' became an integral part of the wedding 'rivaaz'.

Why do women end up settling for less?

Neha Dixit says, men often have a higher sense of self-worth when it comes to work and what they believe their labour is worth.

Women, pushed into situations where survival comes first, are often left with little room to negotiate and ends up taking whatever work is available, whatever the pay.

In “Un-/spoken: Writing Lives in Conflict”, Neha Dixit reflects on how desperation can strip away a woman’s sense of self-worth, and how deeply gender and class shape the choices we get to make.

A sharp conversation from Koshala Literature Festival Edition 4.

Is going viral really about being a girl or a guy?

In “The Other Side of the Epic,” Koral Dasgupta speaks with Arsh Ali Chandel about Sita as a woman who was always self-made and capable of making her own choices.

From insisting on going to the forest to making decisions that shaped her own story, Sita was never simply a silent character in someone else’s epic.

Maybe it’s time we looked at her story from the other side.

No struggle story. No sad story. No pity. Just a statement of how he sees his journey. Allahabadi kisi se dab ke nahi rehte, unhe vardaan mila hua hai.

Some stories are not just meant to be remembered. They are meant to be questioned.
The story of Sita has often been told through sacrifice, purity and devotion. But what happens when we pause and look at the way she was treated, even by the people closest to her? A powerful perspective that makes you revisit a story we thought we already knew.

Yes, Banaras has malaiyo but when it comes to taste, Lucknow’s makkhan is best. And honestly, if even Diljit Dosanjh made it a point to go for makkhan first thing in the morning when he was in Lucknow, maybe that’s all the proof we need.

As Ravindra Vaish says this at at the Mithaas: Kal Bhi, Aaj Bhi session at Koshala Literature Festival Season - 4.
