Day-2 23.5.26
The first half’s Mime & Body Language class was conducted by popular mime artist Shubhendu Mukhopadhyay. The children observed and tried to learn various techniques of silent acting or
mime without using words.
Children joyfully learned and practiced stationary walking, body languages by considering size, weight and volume of the object and different kinds of animal movements using illusion and expressions in mime.
This workshop by Sri. Mukhopadhyay will greatly help our children in taking their upcoming theatre production related to nature & animals forward.
The second session of the second day was quite different — a unique music class that focused not merely on rhythm and beats, but on creating instrumental tracks and musical soundscapes without using conventional instruments.
The instructor for the workshop was Nilamshuk Dutta, a multi-percussionist and noted instrumental musician, especially known as a key member of Hooliganism, the Kolkata-based Bengali musical collective.
After lunch, when everyone was feeling slightly drowsy, Nilangshuk instantly energized the children through rhythmic exercises set to music. Beginning with simple counting patterns like “1-2-3-4,” he gradually introduced more complex rhythmic combinations using different hand movements and body coordination exercises. The children learned how rhythm, variation, movement, and coordination together create music.
The session became even more engaging when the instructor introduced instruments like the 'Darbuka' and 'Shaker'. He generously shared various musical instruments from his personal collection, encouraging the children to explore sound collectively. Within a very short time, the participants were able to create rhythmic patterns together, follow tempo changes, and produce different layers of sound by concentrating, listening and responding to one another.
Through body movements, vocal sounds, hand-eye coordination, and rhythm exercises, the class transformed into a joyful experience of creativity, teamwork, and collective musical expression.
Our heartfelt thanks to both the teachers for making the second day of the camp such a learning and enjoyable journey for the children.
