Kalyani Mukhosh’s “2034” unfolds as a deceptively playful magic show that gradually dissolves into a chilling and unfamiliar reality. Inspired by the theatrical philosophy of Badal Sarkar, the play carries echoes of audience interaction and minimalist intrigue, yet charts its own narrative course. At its center are Moinak and Niharika, a celebrated magician duo whose globally acclaimed act takes an unexpected turn when they are summoned by the enigmatic and powerful Narottam Mallik. What begins as a test of mind-reading soon spirals into a layered confrontation between performance, power, and perception. With humor as its veil and unease as its undercurrent, “2034” steadily dismantles the audience’s assumptions, culminating in an ending that is as startling as it is thought-provoking—leaving one to wonder how much of reality we truly comprehend.

Morche Pora Alo is a contemplative exploration of the fragile nature of human relationships, unfolding through three distinct forms of separation—death, distance, and emotional rupture. While death is accepted as an inevitable truth and distance gradually becomes a part of life, it is the deliberate breaking of human bonds that leaves the deepest scars. Through its philosophical narrative, the play reflects on loss, betrayal, and the lingering pain of fractured connections, inviting the audience to ponder the emotional weight of relationships that can never be restored.

Inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s Fear and Misery of the Third Reich, Bheeti is a haunting theatrical exploration of fear as the invisible architecture of our present existence. Stripping away the illusions of religion and love, the play interrogates a society gripped by an ever-looming sense of threat—where danger arrives not from distant enemies, but through familiar strangers. The narrative unfolds as an unsettling mirror to a fractured neighbourhood caught in the politics of survival, revealing how deeply fear infiltrates everyday life. With evocative design and direction by Sohag Sen and a committed ensemble, Bheeti becomes a stark meditation on how fear shapes, controls, and ultimately defines civilization. A deeply resonant production that compels the audience to confront an uncomfortable question—are we living, or merely enduring?

Alor Pathjatri (Traveller of Light) unfolds as a stirring chronicle of Bengal’s social awakening, set against the rigid orthodoxy of the nineteenth century when women’s education was nearly unthinkable. Directed by Asit Basu, the play traces the inspiring journey of Sir John Elliot Drinkwater Bethune, whose visionary efforts in 1848 led to the foundation of a girls’ school in Kolkata. Supported by progressive luminaries such as Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Madanmohan Tarkalankar, Dakshinaranjan Mukhopadhyay, and Ramgopal Ghosh, this movement challenged deep-seated prejudices and redefined societal norms. Through its compelling narrative, the production pays homage to resilience, reform, and enlightenment—capturing the arduous yet transformative path that gave rise to Bethune School and College, and to the first generation of educated women in India. This production is also a heartfelt tribute to the founding member of the group, the late Smt. Bhadra Basu, whose dream shaped this play, making Alor Pathjatri a deeply personal and reverent theatrical offering in her memory.

Love, song, and freedom have long been exiled from this mechanised landscape. Into this desolate world arrives Nandini—radiant, untamed, and irresistibly alive. Her presence becomes a stirring wind through a suffocating stillness, awakening forgotten desires, rekindling the embers of humanity, and inspiring a collective yearning for emancipation. As her spirit touches both the oppressed workers and the secluded King, the walls of fear begin to fracture and the architecture of tyranny trembles. With poetic brilliance and philosophical depth, Rabindranath Tagore crafts a timeless meditation on the conflict between life and machinery, soul and greed, freedom and domination—making Raktakarabi not merely a play, but an enduring hymn to the resilience of the human spirit.
