Yesterday at the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Bengal Biennale revisited its journey from the inaugural 2024 - 2025 edition and announced the curators who will shape the upcoming 2026 - 2027 season.

The evening began with a short video message from our previous curator, Siddharth Sivakumar , wishing the new curatorial team good luck. This was followed by the screening of a few audio-visual pieces, some nostalgic & some new and a panel discussion featuring the curator of the Birla Academy of Art and Culture Uma Ray, the new co-curators Chander Haat and Ritika Biswas and Gameplan Foundation’s co-trustee Jeet Banerjee, who spoke about art, culture and a bit about what we should expect from the second edition of the Bengal Biennale.

The evening concluded in true Bengali spirit - with cha, singhara and cake shared amongst friends, artists and collaborators.

3 very exciting events happened at the Indian Museum, on the 5th of January, to conclude the Bengal Biennale - Kolkata Chapter! As we bid farewell to this, we reflect back on a month of vibrant creativity, enriching conversations and musical journeys that have touched our hearts and minds.

The day started out with a walk-through with Dayanita Singh at her photography exhibition, whilst a very talented young lady played the Tanpura to set a soulful ambience. In the evening, the Jnanpith Award-winning author, Amitav Ghosh spoke about his book and about the art of O***m trade. The evening ended with a musical evening with Rakesh Chaurasia on Flute, Gopal Barman on Srikhol and Aarchik Banerjee on Tabla.

A heartfelt thank you to every single person who attended and made this experience truly special. Your presence and engagement brought these events to life! To our generous sponsors whose unwavering support made this possible, to our various venue partners for providing spaces where art, culture and music could flourish, the incredible curators who brought their vision and expertise to ensure that the Bengal Biennale - Kolkata Chapter was a resounding success and of course, to the talented artists for sharing your craft, passion and creativity with us. It is through your work that we continue to explore new perspectives and challenge old boundaries.
