Rangakarmee founded by Usha Ganguli was launched in January 1976 in Kolkata. The Hindi theatre group aimed to position theatre on India’s stage and not confine it to only a region. Since its launch, Rangakarmee resolved to produce plays that would raise voice against the prevailing social evils and oppression in the society at large. he zest to take up challenges for the cause of theatre. Rudali, Kashinama, Sarhad Par Manto, Badnam Manto, Hum Mukhtara, Vama, and Antaryatra directed by Usha are a few of the internationally acclaimed productions from Rangakarmee. On the international stage, Usha has directed Rudali in South Asian Theatre Festival at New Jersey Art Centre and in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Kashinama was staged five times at the International Theatre Festival, Germany. Vama and Antaryatra have been performed in different parts of USA. Usha has performed at several international festivals, staged her productions in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Europe and America. Her upcoming productions will be staged at Theatre for Peace in Pakistan and Manto-nama in Bangladesh. Usha Ganguli an actor, director, producer, playwright and set-designer and theatre activist - started her career in theatre in 1970. She is the recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi award for theatre direction in 1998 and has several noteworthy awards and recognitions for her contribution to theatre in Hindi language from Kolkata, West Bengal, India. In 45 years, Rangakarmee under Usha Ganguli has achieved a name and position in the field of national and international theatre.
