Baulami - detours in design Curators and designers of Indian handloom and handcrafted products. Baulami breaks free from off-the-rack, one-fit all machine made fabric and designs.

At Baulami, we are celebrating the Festival of Lights with exquisite finds from our travails to Koraput, Orissa.

We have been dying to get our hands on Kotpad saris, the intricate tribal weave that uses traditional tribal motifs from their daily lives.

Beside that ofcourse we can never get over our striped Ikat weaves in vibrant colours!

What better day to start displaying our Durga pujo and Diwali collection than the day of our independence.

At Baulami throughout the year we scout for hand woven and indigenous craftsmanship that is intrinsically Indian in its tale. The complex Ikat patterns from Orissa, the age old Benaras weave, the simplicity of a Bengal weave. In each corner of this rich country lies exquisite handcrafted design cherished in delicate threads and wooden blocks - whether that be dongria, kantha, or batik.

Here's to celebrating freedom and prosperity that nurtures our heritage and our treasures.

Benaras and its weaves...an intricately woven border of a myriad colours, so much like the place itself. Baulami presents Banarasi saris in a different flavour, exquisite as that bridal day drape tucked in the wardrobe, but in subtle colours and minimalist patterns that you can embrace everyday. We decided to give red a miss, and explored the same weave in trendy black and grey, fragile white, and rich orange and peach. Did you think the artisans only wove silk, check out the wonders they can achieve in cotton too!

Exquisite Ikat weaves from Orissa for your Dashami mornings and evenings.

We begin with simple Ikat weaves from the village folks in Maniabandha and end with a single edition complex weave by a national award winning master weaver.

We saved the best for our last post in the pujo series. Don't miss this sari that took 6 months to weave.

Dongria weaves from the villages of Orissa - Handwoven cotton saris. The design and motifs used here are usually embroidered by the Dongria Kondh tribe in their traditional shawls.

They are called Dongria or dweller of donger ("hill" in Oriya), and have not only managed to maintain their own unique cultural and ethnic identity, but have also inspired hand loom weavers across Orissa to adopt their unique patterns in their weaves.

What fascinates us about Indian textiles is the never ending variety of weaving techniques, textures, and designs. In every corner of the country, a weaver is narrating a unique story on the loom.

To celebrate your Nabami mornings and evenings, Baulami presents an eclectic mix of artisan woven saris from different parts of India...in shades of black and white and a splash of green.
