CICFF - CALCUTTA INTERNATIONAL CULT FILM FESTIVAL

CICFF is a monthly live screening film festival, opened in November 2016, with a yearly live screening mega event in the City of Joy. The monthly live screenings take place at the end of each month at Rotary Sadan (one of the most prestigious film venues of Kolkata). Mission: The sole purpose of CICFF is to develop a film culture that inspires and

brings together cross-cultural innovations that enrich people’s lives with information, education and entertainment. The event's goal is to introduce more people to art-house cinema. We would like to see films made primarily for aesthetic and philosophical reasons. We believe that a story driven by a genuine expression can stimulate new thoughts that have the power to promote the fundamental principles of humanism, expand creative frontiers, stimulate new levels of compassion, and even lead to social change. The Festival is an organization dedicated to the discovery and development of new Artists and Audiences. The Festival seeks to support and inspire independent film and theatre artists from all over the world, and to introduce audiences to their creative work. We also welcome established Art-house filmmakers, who have already dedicated a major contribution to the art of filmmaking. Each month more than 50 films from the different categories are officially selected and out of them at least one per category is awarded. The most representative are monthly screened in Calcutta and have a free academic and detailed review published at our International film magazine CULT CRITIC (https://cultcritic.co), shared at respective IMDb pages (if applicable). All these monthly winners are automatically qualified for the annual live screening gala in the City of Joy and can be nominated for the prestigious GOLDEN FOX AWARDS (the best of the best). The annual event is a glamorous red carpet premiere with press conferences and gala parties at Kolkata in the presence of international movie celebrities. The participants get an excellent opportunity to exchange their ideas, ideologies and cultural innuendoes. The winners will have a chance to meet with the audience and participate in Q&A after the screening. Today, the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival (CICFF) bows in reverence to the man who was—and remains—the ultimate cult icon of global art: Rabindranath Tagore.

While the world knows him as a Nobel Laureate, we celebrate him as the original disruptor. Tagore didn't just write; he challenged the structural integrity of storytelling, blending the surreal with the social, and the cosmic with the mundane. He was a filmmaker in spirit long before the camera became a staple of Indian expression.

Why Tagore is the Ultimate "Cult" Inspiration:

Tagore’s influence on cult cinema is immeasurable. Without his literary skeleton, the masterpieces of Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha, and Rituparno Ghosh would lack their spiritual heartbeat. He provided the blueprint for the "Art House" movement before the term even existed.

"Everything comes to us that belongs to us if we create the capacity to receive it."

On his birth anniversary, we challenge our community of filmmakers to "create that capacity." Break the tropes. Defy the genres. Be as unapologetically original as Gurudev.
