Kolkata romRoma
(Let the spotlight light the way)
Born in the heart of the City of Joy, growing up amidst the vast culture of India, living among the
creative mass, a few young people couldnot help but come together and let their different ideas flow free! Plays for the mass, plays that need not necessarily scream morals nor teach the lessons that are al
ready exprerienced in life. We decided to make this society a safer, better and happier place to dwell, to make YOU feel good. A blend that will teach but not preach, that will enetertain while you rack your brain and hence we came to this gift. Sri.Rama Prasad Banik. Its a group that believes in discussing and debating over ideas, boosting the members to adapt or write original scripts, direct plays, plan the set and compose songs. We believe in the process of rotation, where different members get to enact the same character in different shows. We encourage the spirit of the group to rush far away from this daily rush of grey, to welcome you to the virtual world for a few hours, to let you enjoy living once again. Our first play “Madhyaraat-er Mojlish” was adapted by Prabahan Chakrabarty, from Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay's short story “Raat Jokhon Barota”. It was first staged on 23rd September, 2009 as a part of Porjash. Next, it was staged at the premises of Nehru Children's Museum on 14th November, 2009 as a part of Children's Day celebrations. Later we were invited to stage the play at Triguna Auditorium in 2010, as a part of a farewell programme organized by Jadavpur University, Chemical Engineering department. Our second play,”Modhureno Shomapoyet” is written and directed by Anirudha Dasgupta and it was staged on 1st October, 2011, at West Wind complex, as a part of Durga Puja celebrations. Kolkata romRoma is a tribute to our guardian, our teacher, who taught us life on stage. A group that doesnot promise to set the stage ablaze, but a group that wants to touch the souls of many. We want to keep theatre alive. Let the spotlight light the way.
