বর্তমান সময়ে তোমরা নিশ্চয়ই অনুভব করতে পারছো- যুক্তি, স্বাধীন চিন্তা এবং বিজ্ঞানমনস্কতার ওপর নানা দিক থেকে আক্রমণ নেমে আসছে। সমাজের সর্বত্র উগ্র অন্ধতা ও গোঁড়ামিকে ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার চেষ্টা চলছে। অথচ আমরা যে পেশায় প্রবেশ করতে চলেছি, সেখানে মুক্তচিন্তা ও বৈজ্ঞানিক দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি ছাড়া বইয়ে পড়া ডাক্তারিকেও সঠিকভাবে প্রয়োগ করা সম্ভব নয়।
তাই শুধু ডাক্তারির বই পড়া আর পরীক্ষা দেওয়াই নয়, একজন মানবিক ও দায়িত্বশীল চিকিৎসক হিসেবে গড়ে ওঠার জন্য উপযুক্ত মানসিকতার চর্চাও আজ অত্যন্ত জরুরি। সেই ভাবনা থেকেই স্ক্যালপেলের পক্ষ থেকে মেডিকেল এথিক্স নিয়ে এই আলোচনা।

In the present times, you can surely feel that reasoning, independent thought, and scientific temper are being challenged from various directions. Across society, there are growing attempts to promote blind dogma and intolerance. Yet, as future members of the medical profession, we cannot properly apply even the medicine we learn from our textbooks without a spirit of free inquiry and a scientific outlook.
Therefore, becoming a doctor is not just about studying medical books and passing examinations. Equally important is cultivating the mindset needed to grow into a compassionate, responsible, and ethical physician. It is with this conviction that Scalpel is organizing this discussion on Medical Ethics.
